An Early 19thC Mahogany Open Armchair
[CS0105]
SOLD

With an unusual and attractive back, the top rail and upper section of the splat concentrically pierced to form a beautiful petal-like design, above four tapering square columns. The later upholstered seat has an embroidered edge. It sits between square arms, and above sabre legs at the rear and turned legs at the front, joined with turned supports.

A handsome, striking, well-made and very well-standing chair, with some elements of the Hepplewhite style, probably originally one of two armchairs from an overall set of eight or twelve dining chairs. The mahogany has a good colour and patina, and the whole is firm, solid, and attractively proportioned.

Circa 1820
